Biography

Fadil’s doctoral research at the Genetics Department of the University of Leicester (completed in 2013) included an investigation into the contributions of two iron-acquisition systems to meningococcal virulence using an ex vivo human whole blood model and the vaccine candidacy of these systems. While at Leicester, he partook in quantitative and qualitative studies that investigated human adaptive immunity to meningococcal carriage and diversity (specifically, phase and antigenic variation of major surface structures).

Since 2014, while based at Imperial College London, his research has focussed on the optimisation and application of advanced vaccine antigen identification and development tools to the discovery of cost-effective and efficacious bacterial vaccines, using Neisseria meningitidis and Streptococcus pneumoniae as exemplar. Other collaborative efforts include studies elucidating the interplay between human immunity and severity of childhood infectious diseases as well as the development of secondary (mainly, autoimmune) disorders.
