Biography

Philippe Denoel holds a PhD in Immunology and Bacteriology from the University of Namur, Belgium. After occupying academic positions he joined GSK Biologicals in 1997. He was first responsible for the preclinical R&D of otitis media vaccines.

In 2002, Philippe became head of preclinical immunology and bacteriology. He participated to several vaccine projects and helped in the development of vaccines that are now registered or submitted for  approval {lnfanrix Hexa, Synflorix, Menhibrix, Menitorix, Nimenrix, Hepatyrix,...).  In 2010, Philippe joined the External R&D and Innovation department and today he is Head of External R&D. He is in charge of developing scientific collaborations as well as the identification and evaluation of new vaccine and technology opportunities to help the company reaching its R&D objectives. Amongst other, he is responsible for the support of projects involving multi­ partners and public funds. Philippe also acts as the GSK Vaccines R&D single point of contact for the academic and biotech partners. Philippe is the author of more than 50 scientific publications and was invited to speak or chair sessions at several international conferences. He is the Chair of the Vaccines Europe R&D Working Group since 2015.

Philippe is also the President of R&D Policy Working Group of Union Wallonne des Entreprises (UWE) in Belgium. He is a member of the board of several important organizations such as BioWin (Health Cluster), the lmmuneHealth Research Centre or the Belgium R&D Industry Association (BIR&D).
