Biography

I graduated from Bristol University in 2002 and moved to the North-west in 2007. As a registrar in respiratory medicine I decided I wanted to become an academic, so I joined the Respiratory Infection Group at Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine in March 2011 as a Clinical Research Fellow (funded by the National Institute for Health Research Biomedical Research Centre (Royal Liverpool University and Broadgreen Hospitals Trust)). I completed my PhD at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine - 'Lower Respiratory Tract Infection in Adults; Carriage as a Diagnostic, Home-based Care and Vaccine Development' under the supervision of Prof Stephen Gordon. I started my Senior Clinical Lecturer Post in November 2017 at LSTM and University Hospital Aintree.

I was the chair of the BTS Specialist Trainee Advisory Group (STAG) 2011-2014. Our group was awarded a RLBUHT Make a Difference Award (the Director's Star Chief Executive’s Award) for our respiratory research in June 2015, and I was the Early Career Investigator Award Winner from the British Lung Foundation's British Thoracic Society Conference in London, 2014.

My current research involves both patients and healthy volunteers and is currently focused mainly on experimental human pneumococcal challenge (MRC funded) and bronchoscopy techniques (MRC and industry partner projects).
