Biography
My work focuses on the interactions between pathogens, the epithelium, and the innate immune system.
My current research, under the mentorship of Professor Robert Heyderman, is directed towards understanding the initial interactions between Streptococcus pneumoniae and the airway epithelium. We are using the Experimental Human Pneumococcal Carriage Model at LSTM and in vitro epithelial cell lines at UCL, to investigate host signalling during colonisation. The implementation of techniques such as confocal microscopy, flow cytometry, adhesion assays and RNA sequencing, helps us understand how the host responds to bacterial challenge.
