Biography

Dr Nielsen is a Sir Henry Wellcome Postdoctoral Fellow working with Prof Simon Draper’s Blood-Stage Malaria team at the Jenner Institute, University of Oxford. The focus of her research is investigating the impact of vaccine platform on the cellular drivers of humoral immunity through multiparameter flow cytometry, systems serology, and singlecell RNASeq. Her broader long-term interests are in understanding the factors that contribute to heterogeneity in vaccine immunogenicity and protective efficacy.

Dr Nielsen is also involved in running the blood-stage malaria challenge model in Oxford for both Plasmodium falciparum and Plasmodium vivax, as well as supporting collaborators establish these models elsewhere. 

Prior to joining the University of Oxford in 2016, Dr Nielsen obtained her PhD with Prof Eleanor Riley at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
