Biography
I am the Senior Research Fellow in Microbial Sciences in the Faculty of Medicine and the Southampton NIHR Biomedical Research Centre.
My research has focussed on the application of computational biology approaches to understand the epidemiology and pathogenicity of bacterial infectious disease, primarily of those pathogens that can be carried in the human respiratory tract such as Streptococcus pneumoniae and Non-typeable Haemophilus influenzae. My expertise is in the analysis of whole genome sequencing data to determine the outcome of evolutionary processes in response to intervention, and the analysis of human-associated microbiomes, with a focus on those of the respiratory tract, in order to elucidate the community-host interactions that underpin colonisation and progression to disease.
