Biography

Hannah Frost’s research is focused on Strep A (Group A Streptococcus), with particular focus on antibody immunology, molecular bacteriology and vaccinology. She was first introduced to Strep A in New Zealand, where acute rheumatic fever continues to plague Maori and Pacific Island communities in a similar manner to indigenous Australians, and completed an undergraduate research project on cross-reactive antibodies to Strep A surface proteins. Hannah continued this line of research in Melbourne at the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute, working as a research assistant under Prof. Andrew Steer in the Tropical Disease group, before moving to Belgium to undertake her PhD project characterising Strep A surface proteins as potential vaccine candidates at the Université Libre de Bruxelles under Prof. Pierre Smeesters.

Since finalising her PhD in 2020, Hannah re-joined the MCRI Tropical Diseases research group, working with Dr Josh Osowicki on the controlled human infection model of Strep A pharyngitis, and as the lab lead for the Australian Strep A Vaccine Initiative.
