Biography

My PhD has given me first-hand experience of setting up and running a human rhinovirus challenge study in a disease population (asthma), of running a randomised controlled trial incorporating experimental human infection, and of a variety of sampling methodologies. I have access to a large library of samples and data from previous human rhinovirus challenge studies in our group, including patients with asthma and COPD as well as healthy smoking and non-smoking controls who have undergone detailed phenotyping. I am looking to build collaborations with other member so the HIC-Vac network to undertake further work on these unique samples, leveraging their expertise in various broad-based ‘omics’ methodologies and bio-informatics analysis. Longer term, I am applying for funding for further human rhinovirus challenge studies in asthma, with the aim of building a group that is sought after for this expertise by industry and academic collaborators. I also have established relationships with the severe asthma centres at Guys’ and St Thomas’ Hospital and the Royal Brompton Hospital, as well as the clinical team managing a broader cohort of asthma patients at the Imperial College Healthcare NHS hospitals. Together we are in the process of more deeply phenotyping our patients, including an ambition to build a biobank, to serve as a resource for future endeavours including collaborations.  More generally I am approachable and more than happy to support requests regarding any of the methodologies I am familiar with, including providing training.
