Biography
My main research interests are in immunology, with a special interest in cellular and humoral immunology. I am fascinated by the complexity of the immune system and aim to acquire a detailed understanding of (part of) the immune system by approaching it from different viewpoints, such as autoimmunity and infection.
Currently, I investigate changes in cellular characteristics after vaccination. This includes newly developed vaccines aiming to prevent enteric diseases, such as typhoidal salmonella infections. Also, I study the immune response against Salmonella (Para)Typhi in a human challenge model. Knowledge on such immune responses after vaccination or infection may provide more insight into prevention and treatment options for infectious enteric diseases.
