Biography

Maternal and neonatal tetanus elimination (MNTE) demonstrates India’s strong commitment that helped improve access to immunization, antenatal and natal care, in the most vulnerable populations. Now the inclusion and availability of DTaP and its advocacy for pregnant women has shown beneficial outcome. The paucity of knowledge and awareness, and the cost of this vaccine is hindering implementation in public health.

Our concern is raising awareness among the younger generation regarding preventive aspects of vaccination. It is a medico-social task for the health providers. Infants get infection prior to vaccine schedule, in this situation maternal immunization helps to reduce morbidity in infants. Vaccinating every pregnant women for DTaP at earliest contact with well versed health facility will benefit society in the long term.

The public private partnership with social marketing campaigns is strong tool to increase awareness and availability of newer vaccines in developing countries for maternal immunization. Skepticism about vaccination has to be studied and discussed in community.
