Biography

In 2005, I completed my Specialty training in Infectious Diseases at the Clinic of Infectious Diseases, L. Sacco Hospital in Milan (Italy). In 2006 I took a post as infectious diseases Specialty Doctor (Consultant since 2010) in a newly opened ID Department in a large University Hospital in Milan (San Paolo Hospital). Despite a full clinical schedule, I have maintained my interest in research, and I completed a PhD at the Università degli Studi di Milano in “Physiopathology and management of infections of the immunocompromised host and the immunodeficiency acquired syndrome” and a post graduate course in ”Clinical management of drug resistance to antivirals” at Tor Vergata University in Rome (italy). I have been involved as investigator in several clinical trials from phase I to expanded access, mainly on chronic viral infections as HIV and viral hepatitis.  Following my involvement in clinical studies, I developed an interest in medical statistics and I learned SAS programming, which I applied to observational studies on the ICONA (Italian Cohort Naive Antiretrovirals.) In 2013 I moved to Oxford with my family, and in 2015 I started working as Clinical Research Fellow for the University of Oxford. I initially covered the role of lead physician for a phase-1 clinical trial on a vaccine against RSV and I was involved in enteric fever challenge studies. From summer 2016 I have been doing HIV clinics as Consultant Physician at the Oxford University Hospital, I have been working on experimental medicine phase-I clinical studies of both healthy volunteers and HCV infected patients, and being appointed as Chief investigator for HIV viral vectored vaccine studies. Within the HIC-Vac network, I am hoping to collaborate in the development of new viral human challenge models.
