At the Siriraj Center for Research Excellence in Dengue and Emerging Pathogens (SiCORE-Dengue), I collaborate with a dedicated team focused on understanding and combating dengue and other flaviviruses. Our research delves into three key areas. First, we actively search for effective treatments by repurposing existing drugs. Promising candidates are evaluated in both laboratory settings and clinical trials. Second, a central focus involves unravelling the complexities of the NS1 protein, a crucial factor in dengue severity. Our team utilizes advanced techniques to understand its dual role – protective and pathogenic – within the immune system. Finally, we contribute to the field by establishing a controlled human dengue infection model in Thailand (DHIT) specifically designed for endemic settings. This initiative has the potential to significantly accelerate vaccine and drug development by providing a safe and controlled environment that mimics real-world conditions.
