Biography

Ana Gretel is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anthropology and the Postgraduate Program in Social Anthropology at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte. She holds a degree in Social Anthropology from the National University of Salta (2007), a Master's degree in Anthropology from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (2010), and a Ph.D in Anthropology from the University of Brasilia (2015). She did a two-year Post-Doctorate stance at the Collective Health Program of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte- UFRN (2016-2018). She is a member of NESC (Collective Health Studies Center) and the Special Interest Group Teaching Medical Anthropology to future health professionals of the EASA Medical Anthropology Europe Network. Currently she coordinates a team of 50+ professionals in the participative research project "Good Practices for Confronting COVID-19 in Rio Grande do Norte, Paraiba, and Ceara"- a Ministry of Health/Ministry of Science and Technology initiative started on 07/2020 and initially supported by volunteered scientists. There, she is responsible for coordinating effective instance of dialogue between scientific knowledge in the health field and the knowledge coming from local articulators of different communities, such as gypsies, indigenous, fishermen, and homeless groups from Northeastern Brazil. She received the UFRN prize for young researchers (2018) and is currently an ambassador of the Parent in Science Network (2021). She has written several books, scientific articles and media posts.
