Biography
Kondwani is an immunologist with a particular interest in mucosal immunology, T cell biology, experimental human challenge models and flow cytometry. He is a Wellcome Intermediate fellow based at the Malawi-Liverpool-Wellcome Trust Clinical research programme (MLW), where he heads the Viral Immunology research group, co-leads the MLW Immunology research theme and runs the MLW Immunology lab. He did his PhD at the University of Liverpool/Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM), and subsequent postdoctoral training at MLW and Cornell University (USA).
His research focuses on understanding the immune parameters that lead to successful control of pneumococcal carriage in the upper respiratory tract, as well as, pneumococcal infection in the lower respiratory tract, in the context of HIV and high pneumococcal exposure.
