Biography

Gift is a Postdoc in the Malawi Accelerated Research on Vaccines by Experimental and Laboratory Systems (MARVELS) group at the Malawi Liverpool Wellcome Clinical Research Programme (MLW). His research focuses on establishing the human challenge model of tuberculosis and understanding the host immunological responses that determines disease reactivation in latent tuberculosis. His interest is to contribute towards elimination of the hard-to-treat organisms using novel approaches especially vaccines and host directed therapeutics. He previously constructed a recombinant BCG specifically intended to treat drug-resistant tuberculosis.

Gift received his Diploma in Clinical Medicine from Malawi College of Health Sciences, BSc in Biology from University of Malawi, MSc in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Dalian Medical University and a PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from University of Chinese Academy of Sciences where he obtained essential skills for undertaking cutting edge clinical and biomedical research. He has previously served as a clinician in the Department of Medicine at Kamuzu Central Hospital as well as an adjunct Lecturer in Biochemistry, Microbiology, and Immunology at the Mzuzu University. Currently he serves as an Honorary Lecturer in Biochemistry at The Kamuzu University of Health Sciences. He has authored several publications in tuberculosis research, and he serves as a reviewer for Molecular Therapy journal.
